Sidereal History

Sidereal is a location full of mysteries. While plant life grows in the city, the only animals present are the odd non-human player character or animal companion. There was no sentient life in the city until the player characters began to arrive. Traces of the civilization that built Sidereal are few. There are no references to be found in the library, which updates its collection when new player characters arrive. The pieces of remaining outdoor artwork provoke feelings of grief upon viewing. The largest clue to the civilizations’ downfall can be found only when it snows: frozen figures appear, seemingly reacting to disaster. A group staring to the sky in front of a large silver tree in one of the city districts. Individuals huddled on the ground trying to shield themselves. Couples sitting in the center Courtyard, holding hands or embracing. All of these statues break and thaw easily, leaving no evidence behind.

While the civilization is gone, the city is beginning to restore itself, rejuvenated by the expression of feelings and building of interpersonal relationships between its new citizens. Memories shared, truths compelled, dreams walked together, kisses under enchanted mistletoe-- it’s unclear how they power Sidereal’s growth, only that they do. Twelve districts surrounding the Courtyard are opening, their contents reappearing. These range from an industrial zone with a dangerous science lab underneath, to snowy woods with a never-freezing meditation pool and a cave full of hot springs. A coliseum where visitors are filled with the desire to fight. A beach with gems in the sand, accessible by dimensional rift. New resources, new mysteries.

comments

Opened in May 2005, CFUD was a Livejournal and Dreamwidth crack slice of life-slash-B movie RPG set in a “summer” camp co-inhabited by zombies. It was created by Director Elizabeth Sayre to imprison individuals she suspected of murdering her fiancé Stephen. (Spoilers: everyone was innocent, as Stephen himself would show up in Camp once in a blue moon to annoy the residents.) The location was on Earth, and while character contact with the outside world was impossible, a robust Wi-Fi network meant that they were aware of goings-on in the “real world”. After all, every newcomer received two items on arrival: a shotgun and a laptop. Due to events, its locations went from “somewhere in the Louisiana swamps”, “somewhere in Midwestern USA in the middle of cornfields” and “somewhere in coastal France.” The Director and others could cause status effects in Camp and changes to the "campers"/under-20 crowd and "counselors"/over-20 crowd with “jobs” around CFUD-- enchanted mistletoe, age-swapping, turning into stuffed animals for trying to have sex. (Oh yes, there was a sex ban.) As such, it was a general conceit that "Camp" was alive and had a terrible sense of humor. This bridge between the worlds closed for good on its eleventh anniversary, May 6, 2016.

Mayuko arrived in November 2008, launched nine years into the future; her counselor position was the Library Acquisitions and Development Supervisor. That is, due to her family’s bookselling background, she became the one in charge of buying books whenever funding trickled down. While counselor jobs were assigned arbitrarily, Mayu took to the library and took on more responsibilities as other members of the staff left. The library was not quite a genius loci itself (although it had that larger-on-the-inside-than-it looks-on-the-outside factor), but many of the books it housed were very much alive and not shy of biting the hand that read them. She maintained her unofficial head librarianship position for the duration, until she was allowed to return home in 2013. There was a very large contingent from "home" over the years-- the Fruits Basket/Hana-Kimi/Ouran casts mutually agreed that their universe was shared. Mayuko inherited a unique cabin of her own from canon-mate Shigure Sohma, with the stipulation being she would take in and look after his relative Momiji, one of her students from home. Over that time, she was adopted by two pets: Daichi, a fluffy white and orange tomcat who loved hunting the living books and not much else, and a grumpy, slightly spoiled Rhodesian Ridgeback puppy named Jun. Due to a quirk of Camp, neither animal seemed to age or grow over the years until they accompanied Mayuko to her home.

comments

It’s the story of the Sohma family, who have twelve thirteen members cursed by the spirits of the Chinese Zodiac to change shape whenever they grow weak or are embraced by the opposite sex. It’s the story of budding shoujo-messiah Honda Tohru; she gets swept into the household of one Sohma Shigure where, by keeping house for him plus two of her classmates, she receives free room and board. It’s the story of princely Yuki and hot-tempered Kyou, struggling to define themselves in the world outside the Sohma compound before they get trapped within it permanently. Every character has their secrets; each nurses their own sorrows and injuries caused by the Zodiac Curse. But Fruits Basket is not just a story about experiencing the tragedies of life: everyone, even Tohru, is asked to face their painful memories, to make peace with them and transform them into new-found strength in order to move on.

Character Details

Age

Late Twenties

Hair/Eyes

Dark eyes, hair color TBD? But long unless specified.

Height/Weight

5'8''/Healthy

Notable Traits

Beauty mark under left eye. Has a book with her almost all the time.

15 Second Summary

Shiraki Mayuko, is Fruits Basket’s central teacher: a formidable woman who does NOT abide disruptions in her classroom. Sure, when her students behave, "Mayu-chan-sensei" is one of the most easy-going of educators. However, discipline is swift and decisive—try to ditch her class, and you’re liable to get thwapped in the face with the roll call folder. Start a fight in her halls, she’ll dump a bucket of water over your head to cool you off! But not even this redoubtable lady is immune from the misery surrounding the Sohma family; witnessing the star-crossed romance between her best friend Kana and the Zodiac-cursed Hatori, Mayuko chose loyalty over passion, unwilling to compromise her integrity and Kana's happiness over her own infatuation with the doctor. Overall, Mayuko's stern demeanor veils a perceptive nature and a deep concern for the well-being of her students and friends.

CFUD Info

Counselor Position

Library Acquisitions and Development Supervisor

Length of Stay

Close to 5 years

Notes

CFUD was a zombie summer camp, created by Director Sayre to imprison individuals she suspected murdered her fiance Stephen. (But everyone was innocent, as Stephen himself would show up in Camp once in a blue moon.) The Director and others could cause status effects in Camp and changes to the "campers"/under 20 crowd and "counselors"/over 20 crowd-- enchanted mistletoe, age-swapping, turning into stuffed animals for trying to have sex. (Oh yes, there was a sex ban.) As such, it was a general conceit that "Camp" was alive and had a terrible sense of humor. This bridge between the worlds closed for good on its eleventh anniversary, May 6, 2016.

While counselor jobs were assigned arbitrarily, Mayu took to the library, and took on more responsibilities as other members of the staff left. There was a very large contingent from "home" over the years-- the Fruits Basket/Hana-Kimi/Ouran casts mutually agreed that their universe was shared. Thanks to Shigure, she found out about the Sohma's curse about six months into her stay (because really, if she could handle krakens in the lake, psychic toucans, and library reference books that could chomp your hand off, she could probably handle her students and her crush turning into animals under very specific circumstances.)

Abilities & Permissions

Abilities

Normal human?
I was waffling about putting up a post for this, so I'll just be brief. Well, I have to be because I'm leaving in a few hours and still have things to get ready.

1. In regards to plot: from what I gathered from the soiree info, the baby world eaters may not be cause to head underground like last year? But Mayu will give the OK to make whatever preparations are needed in/for the library, and I'll just say she's helping out behind the scenes. It'll be open for use like always, and other library personnel can make their own calls, of course. Just, if something needs to be done, it's okay. :|b

2. In regards to 4th wall visitors: I'm really sorry I'm going to miss you all! I'll be sure to read all your wonderful threads when I get back. If you like, leave me links so that I know where you were, and maybe let me know if you don't mind backthreading? This can count as a continuation post, if it's needed.

I know I'm forgetting things but have a lot of fun during your visit to our lovely swamp/camp! Momiji, take care of any castmate-guests while sensei is out.

comments
